Praise Reports from the 2006 "Mighty Men of Valor"
           Regional Mens Retreat for IN/KY/OH

Once again the men of this great
region came together at what has
  overwhelmingly become our favorite
  spot for another wonderful, Spirit-
filled Men’s Retreat.  For the past
  several years the Indiana, Kentucky
and Ohio Regional Men's Retreat has
been held at the Lure Lodge in Lake
  Cumberland State Park near
  Jamestown, Kentucky.  The lodging,
meals, scenery, and fellowship are all
that anyone could hope them to be.

The Men’s Retreat this year was attended by thirty something brethren from all over our Region,
and the theme for our retreat was “Mighty Men of Valor”. God honored us with His presence
from the moment we arrived through the closing comments by the Regional Overseer.

Shortly after the brethren began arriving we were notified that multiple tornados were on the
ground within the county, and that we needed to take shelter.  So naturally we ran outside to see
if we see one.

Brother Carter decided not to have an Evangelist for the retreat
this year, but rather to draw from the talents within our own
region. That had to come from God because we were
ministered to by four outstanding messages on Mighty Men
of Valor from Brother Ron Legg, Brother Jeff Wilcox, Brother
Eric Phelps, and Brother Earl Hazel.  Each one of these
brethren delivered soul stirring, Holy Ghost anointed
messages that were so timely and appropriate for the day.

Some of the brethren came to the Retreat with a “Come and See” frame of mind.  They had heard negative things and wanted to see for themselves if what they had heard was true.  What they found was God’s Spirit confirming where His truth resides.  What they found were Mighty Men of Valor who have taken a stand for Truth and for the glorious Church of God, and who are rejoicing in the fact that they have been counted worthy to suffer shame for our Savior’s name and for The Church of God.

History was also made at the
Men’s Retreat this year
Brother Jeff Wilcox, for the first
time in his life, beat Brother
Eric Phelps in a game of one
on one basketball.  But that
wasn’t good enough; so he did
it again.

But that’s OK because Brother
Eric had Brother Jeff and
Brother Legg moving rather
quickly when he caught a
snake and brought it around for everyone to see.  Brother Jeff and Brother Ron apparently do not
care much for snakes, and opted to place a great distance between themselves and Brother Eric;
and they didn’t waste any time doing it either.

In spite of the history making basketball games and the difference of opinions on whether a
snake is a play thing or something to be avoided at all costs, there was such a wonderful spirit of
unity and camaraderie among all of the brethren that attended the retreat this year.

As with every year, the worst part of Men’s Retreat is
having to leave.  God’s Spirit was so good, and the
fellowship with the brethren was so rich, it makes it
very difficult to leave knowing that it may be months
before we have an opportunity to worship together
again.  Several of the brethren have already commented
that they are looking forward to next year’s Men’s
Retreat.

I believe that we can say without any doubt that The Church of God does in fact have a number of Mighty Men of Valor who are willing to contend for the faith, and defend the gospel at any cost.
