2007 Regional Prayer & Fasting Conference
Sunday, February 11, 2007 - Morning/Closing Session
The Sunday morning, and final session, of this prayer conference was called to order at about 10:20 AM February 11, 2007 by Brother Danny Carter, Regional Overseer of The Church of God for Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio. There is always a certain amount of sadness that comes with knowing that the final session has begun.
Brother Carter called for as many as could to join him at the front of the auditorium for prayer as we began this final session.
Brother Hazel, Brother Legg, and Brother Daniel each lead individual prayers to begin this session of prayer, which was followed by the entire congregation joining together in concert prayer. Brother Carter asked that as we pray together in this concert prayer, we pray specifically for those who were unable to attend the conference for whatever reason, especially for those that are sick; some even hospitalized.
Brother Hazel the led the congregation in a devotion and scripture reading from the 24th chapter of the gospel of Matthew, verses 27 – 31 with special help from Sister Randols (that’s all we’ll say about that – you simply had to be there).
Sister Hazel led the congregational singing, followed by Brother Sanchez of Maryland singing “Who Am I?” The spirit began moving in such a wonderful way that Brother Carter had Brother Sanchez sing the song again, and encouraged everyone to simply worship God while he sang the song again.
Following Brother Sanchez, Sister Daniel testified of having gone through the prayer line last night. She has had a longstanding problem with her rotator cup that has caused her excruciating pain at times. Even while at this conference she was unable to put her coat on without the assistance of Brother Daniel; she testified of not having been able to sleep on that side for a very long time. At some point during the night, after having gone through the prayer line, she began to realize that her shoulder wasn’t hurting. As she was testifying and giving God the praise for healing her rotator cup, Sister Daniel was raising both arms above her head, waving her arm around and showing without a doubt that she had been healed by God. Praise God!!
Sister Daniel then sang a couple of special songs; “I’m Glad I Know Who Jesus Is” and “He’s In The Midst”. There can be no question that He certainly was in the midst throughout this entire conference.
Brother Daniel brought the final message to us for this prayer conference. His message was entitled, “God’s Confirmation; God’s Presence”.
15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every
creature.
16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall
be damned.
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out
devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt
them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
19 So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven,
and sat on the right hand of God.
20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them,
and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
Brother Daniel pointed out that, if we claim verse 15 as the Great Commission for The Church of God, then we also must claim verse 20, which says that the Lord was working with them, confirming the word with signs following; signs following are God’s Confirmation.
Confirmation is sure-footedness. The bible says that God made David’s feet as hinds feet; God gave David sure-footedness.
Confirmation does come with a cost. Commitment = Confrontation = Confirmation.
The early disciples were committed to God’s word and confronted the world with the word of God and God Confirmed His word.
3 And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers, and to thy
kindred; and I will be with thee.
God told Jacob to return to the land of his fathers and that He would be with him. God is in the midst.
13 I am the God of Bethel, where thou anointedst the pillar, and where thou
vowedst a vow unto me: now arise, get thee out from this land, and return unto the
land of thy kindred.
I am the God of Bethel; He is the God of the House of God; He is the God of The Church of God where you have taken your covenant. God told Jacob again to get out of the land and return to the land of his kindred. Return – Go back to the starting point; go back to the beginning of it. Jacob had to make a decision which would determine if God would be with him or not.
Joel chapter 3 speaks of the valley of decision. God will take us to the valley of decision to tell us what is right, so that we will know the right decision. That we will know, that He is the Lord our God, and that we are never alone even when we are in the valley. It is in the valley of trials and temptation where our faith is put to the test.
Jacob began to see Laban’s countenance changing toward him. Even after Jacob had served Laban with all his heart for 20 years, and after Laban even admitted himself that God had blessed him because of Jacob, Laban became jealous of Jacob.
We do not serve and fear God for nothing. He will confirm His word, and until such time He will make our feet as hinds’ feet, and will make us to walk upon high places. God told Jacob, for I have seen all that Laban hath done unto thee; not some, but all. It has not been swept under the rug.
Church of God, know that God has seen all that has been done unto us. It has not been swept under the rug. When God cleanses The Church, He does not do it by getting rid of people.
12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather
his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
God’s people are the wheat. Chaff is part of the wheat. Chaff is the dead part of the wheat, but there remains a seed with life within that same wheat. So when God cleanses the church He will purge that part of each of us that does not contribute to life. Our attitudes, our opinions, and our judgments are part of us, but they do not contribute to the life of the wheat. It is these things that God will purge from His floor.
Jacob was complaining to Rachel and Leah of what their father Laban had done to him. They let him know that they had given up more than he had. Even their inheritance had been given to Jacob; they were even counted as strangers to their own father. However, even with all that, they told Jacob, “Whatsoever God hath said unto thee, DO”. Every one of us has given up something for our commitment to God. Remember, Commitment does Cost.
In the 11th chapter of 2 Chronicles the nation of Israel was divided between Rehoboam and Jeroboam. Rehoboam was making political moves to try to keep from losing more of the people. He ordained priests for the high places and he made golden calves to be places at both ends of the land. The Levites from all of Israel left their suburbs and came to Rehoboam because Jeroboam had cast them off from executing the priest’s office. They had been prevented from being able to perform the duties and responsibilities to the Lord. The bible also says that all those who had set their hearts to seek the Lord God of Israel went after them. They left all that they had, but they were not alone. God said that He would be with them.
We must not think that we are on the wrong road when we encounter difficulties and adversities. David was not hunting bear when the bear came into his flock. A bear can run 35 miles an hour, and a normal human can only run something less than 8 miles an hour, yet David ran down the bear and killed it. When the Holy Ghost is in something, as He was in David’s feet when he ran down that bear, then all things are possible.
We need direction from God. Just as the Holy Ghost; just as when Paul and his company were determined to go to Bithynia and the Holy Ghost “suffered them not”. Paul received and followed direction from God. We must receive and follow direction from God. God told Jacob, Go, and I will be with thee.
When there is commitment to the right decision, there will be confirmation.
