Wow, what another great Ladies Retreat! The theme for Ladies Retreat this year was “The Shoe Box” (Walking in the Spirit). From the opening Friday night, until the closing comments on Sunday afternoon, the Spirit of the Lord was there.
Friday evening was the opening night, and it was so great to be in fellowship with our sisters once again. We began the night with a great welcome from our wonderful Overseer, Brother Carter.
Sister Carter then gave an introduction of the Retreat staff and Retreat theme. We then went into worship with great singing lead by Sister Mary Lou Daniel. Our Retreat Evangelist was Sister Yvonne Harvey. She was a great blessing Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday morning.
Saturday morning, we woke up “Walking in the Spirit,” and ready to enjoy our workshops. We had three workshops that morning.
Sister Betty Kendrick lead our first workshop entitled, “If the Shoe Fits” (Finding God’s purpose for you). We learned that when going shopping for new shoes, the measurement, style and fit are important.
Ephesians 4:1 says, “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.”
Philippians 4:13 says, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.”
So then, we will walk in the shoes God has provided in the size, style, and fit as his humble servants.
Sister Regina Goodin lead our second workshop entitled, “The Fruit of the Spirit.” Her title scripture was based out of Galatians 5: 22-23; “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.” Each fruit was added to “Regina’s Righteous Recipe,” of which we all were blessed with a sample. It was delicious!
Sister Pam Phelps coordinated our third workshop called, “The Shoe Parade.” This workshop was just too much fun! Each she that was worn by our shoe models, represented a certain fruit of the Spirit. “Peace” was represented by the Boot, and “Patience” was represented by the Loafer. Next, the High Heel represented “Faithfulness.” The Bedroom Slipper followed, as it represented “Gentleness.” Included in this hilarious parade was the Tennis Shoe, as it represented “Self Control.” Finally, the last model was bare foot, which represented those who don’t like to wear shoes in the house. Sometimes our lives are like a “high traffic area.” Some refuse to wear any kind of shoe, so they don’t have to worry if it’s the correct one or not.
Saturday evening was just one of the many highlights of the retreat. All the ladies dressed their evening wear, and made our way to “Cinderella’s Ball.” We all felt like princesses that night! Our host for the evening was Prince Jesus. The devotion for the evening included the scripture found in Songs of Solomon 7:1: “How beautiful are thy feet with shoes, O prince’s daughter!”
We truly felt the touch of our Prince Jesus. Sister Carter provided a beautiful banquet room with table decorations fit for a princess.
We continued to “Walk in the Spirit” into our evening service. Our host, Prince Jesus, continued to bless us in the worship, special singing, and the evening message. The Holy Ghost gave a message and interpretation which said:
- “Yea, I say unto thee Church, yeah, I say unto thee, I am leading the way, yea, I say walk in My Spirit, and you will not err in the way, yeah, yeah, I’m calling thee, I am calling thee to a higher walk in Me, Yea, hear me tonight, hear my voice, draw close, draw close to Me, for I am watching thee, I am watching thee.”
We were so thankful for the presence of the Holy Ghost.
Sunday morning, we continued to “Walk in the Spirit” as we gathered together for our least session. Sister Carter had special devotion time for each session.
Friday night was “The Ruby Red Slippers” which represented “The Blood.” Saturday evening, was “The Glass Slipper” which represented “The Bride.” For Sunday Morning, was “The Old Woman Who Lived In A Shoe,” which represented being “Confined By Our Burdens.”
We talked about sharing one another’s burdens. We did this by exchanging prayer partners for the following year. We each brought a ceramic shoe to give to our prayer partner with our name and address attached. It was so much fun to see the different kinds of slippers that were given.
Our last though for the retreat was “If we walk in the Spirit…we will not fulfill the lusts of the flesh!”
Ladies Retreat 2007 was great! I want to extend a special thanks to Sister Carter for making this retreat such a blessing. I am so thankful that she obeyed the Lord and allowed Him to use her, as she shared her beautiful talents He has given her.
Thanks to Sister Carter and her staff for another outstanding Ladies Retreat!
