Open Letter from Bishop Otis Daniel
Dated: 05/08/06 - In Response to an Anonymous
Letter he received
May 8, 2006
Concerned Brother
P.O. Box 206
Cleveland, TN. 37323
Dear Concerned Brother:
I am responding to your letter via the internet because you put a false return address on the envelope, making it impossible to write you a personal letter like you did to me. The return address was verified by the two post-offices here in Cleveland that there is no P.O.B. number of this sort. I see by this you have trouble even telling the truth.
First of all, it would have been proper for you to have signed your name instead of a generic name of “Concerned Brother”.
Secondly, my name is not Brother Daniels. My correct name is Brother Otis. W. Daniel.
Thirdly, I would like to know who gave you access to our General Overseer’s files and who gave you authority to read Brother Pruitt’s private mail, because Brother Pruitt, Brother Dupree, who is my State Overseer, and myself are the only recipients of that letter? I have let no one read that letter; not anyone. It appears to me that you have listened to gossip, and received some very wrong information about me and my character.
My stand is: I am against any enemy of God destroying, cheating, or hurting The Church of God. I am not against our General Overseer now and have never been against our General Overseer! I have tried unsuccessfully to meet alone with our General Overseer, when this should be the privilege of every minister in The Church of God. I visited him while he was a patient in The Life Care Facility here in Cleveland and he and his family knows that I have not changed since I was his pastor. If you do not believe this then ask his sons and anyone else who is sober and not drunk on themselves. If you ask anyone with a destructive, selfish agenda of their own, you will get the wrong information of which you have apparently received.
It appears to me also that your information on who is in charge is not according to the General Assembly and the theocratic practices of the church. I pray that you do not hold a position of leadership in the church since it is obvious that you do not understand Theocratic government by your statement of ---- who is in charge!
I do not appreciate you trying to insult my intelligence or trying to blemish my record as a minister. Please do not write me any more letters without identifying yourself, or I will be forced to discard the letters without opening it.
You may call me at any time, and in an honest, Christian-line manner, we will discuss how I stand and on proper Theocratic business practices of the General Assembly and of The Church of God, but do not take here-say. It is not edifying to listen to malicious gossip.
Sincerely,
Bishop Otis Daniel
